Introducing
DARE TO DREAM ~ DARE TO
DO
A Truly Unique School Assembly
Program By
Dennis & Carol McBride
Who are they?
Dennis McBride has been demonstrating the ancient art of Yo-Yo spinning for more than four decades, and is one of only four U.S. National Yo-Yo Masters. He is the official judge for the annual United States National Yo-Yo Contest. Carol is a recording artist, humorist, and all-around fun person. Together they have performed at schools, theme parks, conventions, toy shows, churches, and shopping malls throughout the United States and in eight foreign countries.
Dennis and Carol have just completed a three-year international tour in which they presented their unique Dare to Dream - Dare to Do assembly program to hundreds of thousands of students, teachers, and administrators.
What do they do?
Dennis & Carol present an energetic, entertaining, encouraging, and educational program that combines original music, humor, yo-yo tricks and other visual aids to reinforce the importance of goal-setting and self-discipline in a childs life. They stress personal character as well as proper conduct, and caution students to avoid dream crushers such as drugs, violence, and negative peer pressure.
How long is their program?
The length is flexible, but most assemblies are from 45 to 60 minutes in length.
What does their program include?
A flurry of Yo-Yo tricks performed to lively instrumental music.
Interaction with the students throughout the program, using simple language to emphasize key principles (they tailor their presentation to the age level of their audience).
A demonstration of individual Yo-Yo tricks from beginner level to super-advanced, illustrating how mastering a simple task enables one to progress to a more difficult task.
Carol singing two original songs: Dare to Dream and Spinnin (both songs encourage the students to set positive goals and work hard at achieving them).
Using a Hoberman Sphere Transforming Globe to illustrate how dreams can grow from mere thoughts to marvelous accomplishments.
A mini yo-yo contest to illustrate the importance of doing ones best even when ones best doesnt result in a first place finish.
A question and answer time.
What ages benefit from their program?
Although Dennis and Carol have presented their program to thousands of High School students, and have been received very well, their primary target grades are K-8. Typically, larger elementary schools will schedule two assemblies (K-3 & 4-6). However, having K-6 together works out nicely as well. Junior Higher students usually have their own assembly and are especially impressed by Dennis yo-yo skills.
